Journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem

Yesterday, we shared the story of the miraculous birth of Milad. We shared her story on Christmas Day because of its similarities to the birth of the most famous Palestinian, Jesus Christ. Jesus’ birth, was also miraculous, as he was born of the Virgin Mary. His parents, Mary and Joseph, made an arduous 90 mile journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem while she was heavily pregnant. Jesus was born during this journey.

Today, this same journey would also be arduous and for many impossible given the many checkpoints along the route. The occupying power, Israel, erects checkpoints to control the movement and to maintain a sense of control over Palestinians in the West Bank. The accompanying activities will provide you with an opportunity to think about what this journey might be like, for you, today.
