Day 10

Day 10 ✩

Imprisoned Children

Yesterday we shared a bit about Ayham Salaymeh. He is 14 years old and lives in occupied East Jerusalem. When he was 12 years old, he and his brothers threw rocks at Israeli settlers. Settlers are people who illegally take over the lands and homes of Palestinians and create their own villages in their place.

The Israeli police arrested Ayham and his brothers for throwing rocks. They then forced him to live under house arrest. This means that for over a year, Ayham was not allowed to leave his home to go to school or see friends and family.

Last November, Israel changed the law and said that children at the age of 12 can be put into prison. So in December of 2024, they forced Ayham to leave his family and go into prison with adults for one year.
